Designs are just image of fashion

In her first year in business , Morningside designer Narelle Sargent made it to the catwalk of the National Retail Association's Australian Fashion Design Awards.

Sargent believes her label stood out by featuring the personality of each child who modelled the colourful garments with the inclusion of their name and photos in the design.

She said she uses a vinyl film transfer to reproduce black and white portrait style photos on to fabric, and embroiders a child's name on to the garment.

"I've created practical styles and used primary colours to produce real children's clothing", she said.

Sargent has also become a finalist in the More2Fashion competition aimed at lifting the profile of new designers.
